Bove Valley

TheBoveValleyis an itinerary of rare beauty, a huge depression bordered by steep walls formed like a horse shoe, open on the eastern side towards the massive volcano.  It is an exquisite geological viewpoint that has always held a notable importance in the comprehension of the evolution of Etna, where through observing the emerging lava, we can reconstruct the different types of Etna volcanic levels going back thousands of years.  After having arrived at the cable-car station, we go round Montagnola to begin the long sandy downward path of Rina Channel to the bottom of the valley. Then after having crossed the 1991-1993 lava flow we go upwards alongBeechCanyon.  Length of excursion: about 6 hours

Difficulty: medium

Notes: Gaiters to be used going down if possible.
