Hiking up the volcanos of Sicily

Hiking up the volcanos of Sicily

Siciliy is a borderland, where the collision between the African plate and the European plate takes place. Along the different parts of this active collision margin the Sicilian Volcanos rise (Etna, Stromboli and Vulcano). The volcanic areas are characterised by an arcane beauty where the destructive, and at the same time creative, forces of  “Mother Earth” meld. They are places where lava deserts and luxuriant woods interchange, and when you look out the abyss of the crater you can hear the deep breath of the “animated matter”. The volcanic influence is also highlighted by the fatalism of the people who live in these areas. The purpose of the hike, besides of showing the beauty of these places, is to let the traveller go through the volcanic dynamics and the local culture.
